Elves, the flu and a potion I knew nothing about

Published by ambrosiavenus at 2:18 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

WOW!  I guess elves can get sick after all, lol.  I’ve spent the last few days in bed with, uh…the flu, I guess they was calling it.  Ambrosia said I must have caught it during my usual walks in the cold weather.  I had it pretty bad, not being used to the germ.

This isn’t an issue in the Shire, where if you fall ill, it’s a matter of finding the person who cast the spell to make you that way.  My first instinct was to use magick to cure myself and find out who sent it.  Lucian seemed to know what to do…he told my father to come see me.

My father came with a potion designed to help an Elven metabolism deal with Human illnesses.  I had no idea about such a thing, mainy because I was never meant to leave..at least until I was set to rule, in which case I’m to know all the little things I need to know to manage the Shire.

Apparently, it was created millenia ago by our High Wizards when Elves started getting curious about what the Humans were into.  In true medical fashion, it has to be recreated every so often to include for new illnesses.  The intricacies are pretty complex, so we won’t go into them right now.

I asked Lucian how he knew about the potion and I didn’t (being the next in line to rule the Shire, I felt it was pertinent information).  He told me that his first trek into the “Land of Humans” involved some intelligence gathering and he had needed the potion to avoid getting sick while he was here.

This raised a lot of questions from me, about the mission he was on (he kept mum).  I asked what would happen if an Elf got sick here and went back home without having taken the potion (basically, whether it was a personal or a community precaution)…would the rest of the Shire catch it and fall ill or is the contagion stopped at the door?  All of my questions were met with an “I’ll explain later, now’s not the time” look from my father.  It shut up my words, but not my thoughts…I need to find out about this and anything else I may have been kept in the dark about.

In any case, the potion embedded itself into my cell-base and I felt fine soon after.  I’m to understand that it usually takes Humans days to feel better, given the way that their natural immunities work, so I’m grateful to be done with it so easily.
