An Evening of Magick
I just made it back in from my evening walk. I had to make sure I wasn’t being followed, absolutely sure! Before you start thinking I’m suffering from pathological paranoia, allow me to tell you why I’m so freaked out.
While I was out, I kept noticing a strangely elven presence off to my left. We elves give off a distinctly different aura than humans. At first I had thought Lucian was trying to scare me, as he did when we were children. How wrong was I! I kept walking, thinking maybe I was imagining it; then I heard a familiar voice call my name.
My father! Somehow, he’d managed to track me down here. Before I could bolt, he caught my arm and kept repeating that he came alone, no one knew he was here; that I was safe, for now.
Safe for now? What was that supposed to mean? Did I even want to know? Should I be making plans to go somewhere that I wasn’t going to risk trouble for my friends? All these thoughts kept racing through my mind. I couldn’t think straight all of a sudden.

“Your mother hired some Searchers to find you. She wants you home to marry Prince Galen, by force if necessary. I love her dearly, but I fear she’s lost her mind. She thinks you’ve disgraced our family and will see you’re punished severely if she finds you. I’m worried for you”, he said over a cup of coffee at a nearby cafe.
“Father, what would you have me do? I respect your authority as my father and as King; however, I cannot return to that life under those circumstances. I will not live as a prisoner.”
“You must stay hidden…and I will help you. I will give you anything you need, be it support, human’s currency, whatever it takes”, he smiled suddenly before he said, “You remind me of myself at your age; so full of pride and independence. I will not let it be striped from you. You decide your own destiny, for there’s no other way.”

Needless to say, we had a pleasant evening of catching up and making plans. We parted ways around 9:30 and I started my way back to the apartment.
I caught a whiff of patchouli…strange because no body was around. It didn’t take long to realize a Searcher was nearby! They can disguise their auras at will, expert at hiding, though their scents linger like ghosts on the wind. It suddenly occured to me that being one of the few elves powerful enough to sense them was going to be very useful indeed.
I broke into a run so fast no human could track it, catching my stalker off guard long enough to get a few blocks away. Not home free yet, I had to be sure I was covering my tracks…and that meant using magick to offset that of my would-be captor.
A insane amount of power went into my glamour, because I had to change my entire energy field to be sure I got away. This type of transformation is rare, even for the royalty, who are generally the most powerful and therefore, more fit to rule.
I finally made it back, confident that I was no longer being followed. I’m a bit scared. I’m not sure anymore if I can trust my father, or if he had been followed as well. If my mother has taken to not trusting him, it’s a very bad sign indeed. Can I trust him? Should I be worried for him? I don’t know what I should do at this point.
All I know for sure, is that I’ve placed guards all over this apartment to ensure it will be safe to sleep here and I’m keeping them up until I figure something else out. I’ve already made Ambrosia a charm to keep her safe, just in case. Tomorrow, I can worry about what to do about all this.
