This Christmas Thing’s Everywhere!

Published by ambrosiavenus at 6:48 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Not a lot happened today.  I took a walk to the park today while Ambrosia was at work.  Usually, I prefer not to go out alone; so for me to be ok with it must mean that I’m adjusting to this strange place.  We’ll find out if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

In any case, the walk was so relaxing, even with it being cold out.  I’ve had so much on my mind lately that I really enjoyed the time I allowed myself today.

I understood before I left the Shire that humans celebrated what they call Christmas.  What I didn’t understand till today was how big a holiday it really is!  There were people all over the place, shopping in the main squares of town.  I even saw a big picture on one of the buildings of humans from different countries and how they celebrate.  This holiday thing’s all over the world?!?

We also have our own winter holidays; they’re pretty similar, but ours are based more on nature’s blessings than an excuse to get gifts.  I’m not being very fair with that statement.  On my walkabout, I did encounter a mother explaining to her daughter about the “true meaning of Christmas” and that it’s “not about getting gifts, it’s time with family…….gifts are an extra…”.

Seeing all these people happily running errands and enjoying time out with their family and friends made me a bit sad.  Will I ever experience anything like that again?  Had I made the right decision by leaving the Shire?

I don’t know the answer to that.  All I know is that I did leave and now I can’t go back.  Going back means apologizing as though I were sorry, and I’m not.

I hadn’t meant to go off on that track.  No, I can’t let myself fall into self pity.  I can’t and I won’t.

When Ambrosia gets back, I’m going to help her decorate her (our?) apartment for the season.  She wants to have a party, a small one, but only if I think I can handle it.  I can’t tell her no, she’s been very good to me.  Besides, if I’m ever going to start a life here, I should get used to being around people.  It doesn’t take much magic to glamour people into not noticing my ears; I can do it without even blinking.

That sounds like her now, I should go.
